♥ Research before launching new website!

Before I build any new website I have to do some homework. Lots of homework!

The first thang I do is decide what type of content the website will contain. What my interests are for the site have to come second to that of what I think my website visitors’ interest might be.

Next up is the domain name. Alot of times I begin a website and can’t decide on a domain name. It’s a sticky situation that will last forever. And I have so many unused domain names in my possession already. I would have to argue that this step is the hardest. In the long run, I might end up purchasing several domain names. No matter which one (new or old) I choose to build upon, I might change my mind in the process of creation and move everythang altogether to a new domain.
Women….they just can’t make up their minds!

Alrighty, so we have idea with domain. Now it’s time to travel. This process takes the longest and although it gives you a big boost, you are never fully done. This process is the research on your topic(s) and the research on the scripts that will empower your whole website. I have spent up to 6 months to a whole year before on just research while slowly building a website. While other times I have spent a couple weeks and was quickly started. It never boils down to what I already know since thangs change so much over time….whether it is topics, ideas, scripts, etc.

Now that I have some thangs in order it’s time to build the basic structure. At this step I’ve probably already begun building from the last step. However, it’s time for the real raw deal. Basic structure might need to be tweaked several times to get it right or to please the masses of prospective visitors you might receive. Not all visitors are alike. Depending on your topics, IMHO, also helps determine the way your structure should be.

Basic structure aside, it’s time to fill in the gaps. Add some content or dummy content. I would suggest with real content. It helps get your mind motivated later on when you need to visualize the design. Otherwise, add most of your content to get the site flowing nicely to help you really get the big picture which will come next.

Keeping in mind what kind of content you will be housing will help you determine what kindof layout you will need to make your basic structure really pop. Do some research on design. Find CSS galleries for inspiration. Look at other sites with the same topics and get some ideas written down. Look at template sites and decide if you’d like to purchase one, use a free one, or build your own…or all three. Sometimes you can mix a purchased design with some free ideas alongside your own ideas to make the masterpiece you have in mind.

Now it’s time to go live! Post some links to your new site on a few of your other sites and/or in some content related websites (without spamming!)…..soon Google will scoop you up and get you going. You may even get MSN and Yahoo to scoop you up as well.

The rest is for another story….maybe another time.

Coffee donations appreciated to help keep me awake and researching.
